Quality products for many situations
We design and manufacture Formica® laminates, solid surfacing materials and components to give full value in many demanding contexts.
We aim to offer you a product that combines practical utility, low maintenance and aesthetic appeal, with a service that ensures trouble-free installation.
Varied and comprehensive, our products and services equip you with the tools you need to create pleasing, functional surfaces, whether vertical or horizontal.
All Formica materials are strong and enduring; many are outstandingly robust, able to withstand heavy wear and tear for many years without loss of effectiveness or appearance. Yet our design and production processes mean that you can obtain delicately graceful effects with even the most resilient of our products.
Design choice for many tastes
Underpinned by recent developments in laminate technology, The Collection gives you one of the widest choices of laminate in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Specifiers and designers can draw on a creative diversity of complementary designs, colours and textures to suit most applications.
Our Plain Colours and Patterns ranges each hold over 150 possibilities: Plain Colours cover the spectrum with great subtlety and tactile appeal, while Patterns embrace a notably stimulating variety of effects. Many different styles, shades and tones of Woodgrains are available, with the Veneers Range of reconstituted real wood finishes providing exceptional luxury. Similarly, the Metallics Range uses real metal foils for a striking visual and tactile effect. For exceptional freshness and vivacity, see what the Digital Ranges (the Michael Banks Range or the Design a Laminate Range) can offer you.
Or, working with our Digital Service, you can create your own ... . Using digital and screen print technologies, we can represent your high resolution designs in durable and hygienic Formica laminate. Digital processes make short production runs feasible.
Materials for many purposes
Formica sheet laminate is only the start. Our Solid Surfacing Material, comprising Plain Colours and Patterns, is 12mm thick (in some cases, also 6mm); the product is simultaneously sturdy and elegant. Formica ColorCore® is a through-colour surfacing material with which many contrasting feature effects may be fabricated. For great strength and structural reliability, with resistance to heat and humidity, consider Formica Compact Grade, faced on both sides with designs from the Plain Colours, Patterns or Woodgrains ranges.
Our different products and grades of laminate each have their own physical properties and performance characterisics that bear direct relation to the functional requirements of particular applications.
Components for a variety of uses
We provide a series of high quality branded finished components. These include wall linings and worktops.
Combining versatility, robustness, practicality and aesthetic appeal, Formica components such as Formica Shower Panel™ are notably effective in demanding contexts of heavy public use, exposure to high humidity, or conditions such as those found in schools or hospitals.
Health and Safety
Formica Limited takes special care to ensure that its products meet requisite safety standards.
Fire performance
The fire performance of standard grades of HPL (including Formica ColorCore) complies with the requirements of Euroclass D. Higher classifications depend upon the grade of laminate, the substrate and the adhesive used in fabrication and installation.
Flame retardant grades in HPL (Grade VFP), and in Compact Laminate (Grade CGF) above 6mm in thickness, meet Class 1 flame spread and Class 0 of the UK Building Regulations. These flame-retardant laminates are capable of achieving Euroclass B, which is the best performance for organic materials.
Solid Surfacing Material meets Class 0 of the UK Building Regulations.
For more information, see Fire Performance.
Stain and chemical resistance
Formica laminates easily meet the requirements of BS EN438 1991 Test Method 15, which specifies resistance to staining by 49 substances likely to be encountered in everyday use.
Chemical resistance depends on the grade of laminate. See Chemical Resistance for a summary of the performance of standard grades of laminate against different types of chemical spillages likely in laboratory conditions.
Hygiene
Most Formica laminate products have been awarded the Certificate of Hygienic Merit by the Royal Institute of Public Health. Compact Grade and Solid Surfacing Material are particularly effective materials where hygiene is critical in the application. Solid Surfacing, microbiologically inert and almost seamless at the joins, is excellent at withstanding any build up of germs and bacteria.
Wet and humidity
Formica laminates are resistant to normal everyday exposure to steam and boiling water, with standard grades performing better than flame-retardant grades in this respect. Compact (CGS) Grade and Solid Surfacing are specially engineered to resist conditions of wet and high humidity.
Cold
Formica laminates are unaffected by extreme dry cold and cold storage conditions.
